Aksana studied at the Durmstrang Institute, where she was shaped and moulded into discipline and ambition thru the strictness of her professors. She graduated with honours, excelling most notably in arithmancy thanks to her talent with numbers.
With the subject of divination not being taught at Durmstrang, Aksana found herself early on venturing into the different methods of divining the future on her own, often making use of her talent in arithmancy to test and rationalise her predictions while doing so.

Having left the school behind, she worked in the Magical Ministry in Moskow for a few years as part of the Department of Prophecies, where she was proving and disproving prophecies through arithmetic calculations. She, however, never felt as though her abilities were appreciated in the way she had hoped they would, and once her mother passed to sickness, there was nothing that held her in Moskow any longer. So, she transferred to the Ministry in London, where the pay for her position was higher. Some time in, she was offered a teaching job in Hogwarts and accepted, hoping to give students the education in divination she felt robbed of as a child.

She dislikes it when students don’t take her craft seriously, and she handles such matters in a way her former professors in Durmstrang might have done: With strict, sometimes downright cold-hearted teaching methods. Though she is not unfair – she appreciates people that put in the effort, and while praise doesn’t happen often, when it does it’s genuine.
