Having a Father who was the head of Magical Law at the Ministry isn't all it's cracked up to be. Barty wouldn't necessarily describe his Father as being cold or unfeeling: it's just that he lacks compassion, and is far too much of a workaholic to notice anything. Barty Crouch Senior often forgets his own son's and wife's birthdays, their wedding anniversary: anything a normal Father would make an effort to remember. It's sad, really. He's a good man.

In his earlier years, Barty found being in Slytherin house as troublesome. The sons and daughters of people his Father had convicted had a fist to shake in his direction. It was also general knowledge he was a muggle supporter, like Dumbledore. As for Barty Junior, he couldn't care less about either side of the spectrum. Purebloodness wasn't important to him. What's more important is belonging, and being worthy of praise and acknowledgement. Something his Father never could give.

And so, poor Barty; he's making friends with the wrong crowd. Whoever knew that was just the beginning of it all.
