Narcissa is the youngest of three girls, her older sister Bellatrix and older sister Andromeda. Cissy being the youngest has its advantages at times, her father believes Cissy to do no wrong but her mother also expects her to pleasure and be there for her husband when it all comes down to it. Cissy knew that in a purist family like hers she would never be able to marry for love but for advantage and expectation. Cissy learned that right away when she began to crush on her older sister Andromeda's betroth. But at the time the two were not betrothed and Cissy began to like Ephrem. Cissy around the time was too young and naive and never fully understood the changes she was going through until she began to hit teenaged years and found herself betrothed but not to whom she wanted.

Cissy remembers crying when she found out that her sister was getting who she loved and wanted to be with and how she was going to be with the Malfoy boy Lucius. It broke her heart to know that Ephrem would never be hers and how all that she was was going to be given to Lucius. After spending time with Lucius she knew that she didn't love him but that could also be because she is in love with another man. Knowing that everyone would be mad at her, Cissy keeps this information to herself because she knows it will do no good.
